The Committee System
Wahunsenakah is a youth-lead Lodge. All brothers are able to take leadership “positions of responsibility” within the lodge. There are many different committees, each responsible for one, of every, aspect of the Lodge. All chairmen are appointed by the Lodge Chief.
American Indian Activities – Join the Dance Team, learn about Indian lore, and crafting! BONUS: If you’re good at it, you can compete at Conclave!
Camping Promotion – Spread the joy of camping to your fellow units!
Ceremonies – From the Pre-Ordeal to the Vigil to the 100th Anniversary, there is a ceremony for every major OA event. Bear the torch’s light for your new brothers to follow. BONUS: If you’re good at it, you can compete at the section’s Ceremonies Weekend and Conclave!
Chapel – A Scout is Reverent. Lead the Lodge in prayer and convene chapel sessions every Sunday the Lodge is together.
Council Events Support – Act as a liaison between the Colonial Virginia Council and Wahunsenakah Lodge!
Elangomat – Guide candidates through the Ordeal as their “friend” (Lenni Lenape translation)! BONUS: Red Sashes for senior Elangomats.
Nimat – Guide your new brothers through the journey to Brotherhood as their “brother” (Lenni Lenape translation)! Keep tabs on new members through their first year, and guide them through their Brotherhood weekend.
Service – Welcome to the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service. Help your local community by taking part in service projects at camp and in nearby towns in the Messengers of Peace program!
Spirit – Mobilize the Lodge to prove to others that Wahunsenakah is the best! From the Conclave theme to keeping service cheerful, this committee seeks to preserve the Spirit of the Arrow.
Historian – The primary responsibility of this position is to observe, coordinate, tabulate and publish both small and major accomplishments of the lodge and its members
Communications – Staff the Duck Calls Newsletter, maintain the website, and spread the news! Communications seeks to inform the Lodge about new events, patches, and more.
Engraving – Create custom-engraved name tags so your brothers won’t forget what their own names are!
Health and Safety – Use your First Aid skills to prevent and treat campsite accidents with the medical staff.
Insignia Design – Design the patches for all Lodge events and beyond! Imagine all your brothers actively seeking to get their hands on a patch you designed.
Kitchen – Help prepare, serve, and clean up Lodge meals at all events. BONUS: Purple Aprons for senior Kitchen Staff!
Trading Post – Staff the OA Trading Post at all events to sell merchandise to your brothers.
Training – Train up new Lodge Leadership and teach your brothers skills with the Lodge Training Committee!
Unit Elections – All of your brothers were elected by your unit in an OA Election. Serve on this committee to light the fire that gets new brothers and units enthusiastic about the OA.
